LINEN TRADITION IN LITHUANIA

The traditions of flax cultivation and processing in Lithuania live on for ages. Lithuanians have been producing linen since the 2nd century and trading linen work since the 16th century, so there are no doubts that we, Lithuanians, have perfected the art of fine quality linen.

Lithuanians believed that energy, positive emotions and dreams people put in during the process will be passed to those who wear it.

PREMIUM QUALITY

Linen is a fabric produced from flax plants. The main thing that differentiates the linen fabric, is the location in which plants have been grown. European climate is perfect for the flax growth, naturally allowing plants to grow higher and stronger. Only the finest and longest fibres of flax plant are used to produce fine quality linen fabric.

Lithuanian linen textile is woven with longer and lustrous fibers, which makes that linen stronger and a better quality.

LUXURIOUS

Linen is considered to be one of the most luxurious natural fabrics. Here is why linen is more expensive than other materials like cotton.

Flax grows best in cooler climates with moderate temperatures, which makes European countries the ideal places for linen production. Due to the higher cost of living and labor in EU countries, the cost of growing flax is simply higher.

Producing high-quality linen is a lengthy process and requires experienced craftsmanship. Matured flax plants must be pulled from the ground to maintain the full length of their fibers. The plants are then left in a field to soften, so that the fibers are easier to separate. Once extracted, the fibers are collected, rolled and stored for 2 to 3 months for further softening, before they are twisted and processed with a spinning technique. From seed to harvest, the time for flax to be ready is about 90 days. Moreover, weaving linen is a real art since the fibers are very fragile and difficult to work with because they can break easily.

Due to these reasons linen fabric is considered to be luxurious, nevertheless we believe it is worth paying when you know all its wonderful benefits.

PRE-WASHING TECHNIQUE

Natural linen fabric's texture can be described as crisp, rough and pricky, but it gets softer after washing over time. Since most of us don’t wish to wait, linen pre-washing technique saves us time and efforts to get linen soft and pleasant from the beginning.

At Jurga Linen, we work only with softened pre-washed 100% eco-friendly linen. And here is why:

  • Soft to the touch

Pre-washing technique enhances linen fabric with silky appearance and great feeling against the skin right out of the package, so you don’t have to wait to “break in” the fabric over a few washes.

  • Aesthetic appeal

Because of this special treatment and tumbling method, linen fabric gets the charming “wrinkled effect” - a unique texture that adds a timeless, relaxed elegance.

  • Minimal shrinkage

Pre-washing technique pre-shrinks linen fabric, meaning your garment will retain its size and shape perfectly.

  • Easy to care for

Pre-washed linen can be machine washed, tumble dried and no ironing is needed.
