High quality linen is durable by itself, so you don‘t need to maintain any difficult care.

However, with the right care your favorite linen items will last longer.

WASHING

Linen can be both hand-washed and machine-washed - either of these methods is suitable and won’t stretch or shrink your already pre-washed linens.

  • Always separate dark and colored linens from white ones. Wash linen items separately from other materials during the first wash, as natural fibers tend to lose lint and vivid colors might dye, which you don’t want to end up on your other items.
  • Turn your linen items inside out and wash in lukewarm water (<40°C/104°F). High temperatures may cause the fibers to weaken and even shrink up to 10%.
  • Choose a gentle cycle. Do not overload your washing machine to reduce creasing.
  • Use mild detergent formulated for delicate fabrics. Don’t bleach and use fabric softeners -they weaken the fibers and coat them reducing their absorbency properties.

REMOVING STAINS

Stains on linen are usually easy to remove. The rule of thumb for getting stains out of linen easily is doing it as soon as they develop. It would require more effort when the stain of grease, oil, red wine sit and gets absorbed deep into the fibers.

Soak the stain in a water-detergent or wash it with club soda. If that doesn’t help, you can put some dish soap and gently massage it until the dirt comes out. For very stubborn stains, you can try sprinkling baking soda and a few drops of vinegar on the fabric.

DRYING

Pre-washed linen items can be easily tumble dried on low heat. Do not dry your linens on high heat. Remove from the dryer when they are still slightly damp and hang or lie flat to finish the process.

Another great option is to dry linen items hanged or lied down. Shake out your linen before hanging them – it will reduce creasing.

Do not dry your linen items under direct sunlight, as it will fade the color.

IRONING

Natural linen is prone to wrinkle, crease and crumble – you just have to accept it and come to love it. When your linen is still damp, smooth and press it flat with your palms to reduce mayor creases. When dry, spray with water for a relaxed look.

However, if you don‘t enjoy too many wrinkles, iron your linens on a low heat when still damp. Before ironing dry linens, spray them with water. For a perfect flat look, it is best to overlay your linens with a damp towel to avoid scorching the fabric.
